UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The ways the coronavirus pandemic has changed the traditional brick-and-mortar learning experience and led to a new online classroom for K-12 and higher education students will be discussed during the next episode of WPSU’s “Digging Deeper” on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Paul Morgan, professor of education and director of the Center for Educational Disparities Research, and Kelly Rosinger, assistant professor of education, from the College of Education’s Department of Education Policy Studies will join Penn State President Eric Barron for the discussion.

WPSU’s “Digging Deeper: The Online Classroom” will air at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on WPSU-TV and can be streamed on live.wpsu.org. WPSU is a Penn State Outreach service.

Rosinger says that teachers and students are experiencing education in different ways because of the pandemic, and it’s changed how everyone needs to approach online learning.

“Right now, we're sort of in crisis mode. Many of us ourselves are feeling the economic pressures, the pandemic itself. Our students are certainly coming into the classroom with that too,” she said. “So, the word that keeps coming into my head, and thinking about teaching and learning in this environment, is compassion.”

WPSU’s “Digging Deeper” explores how work being done at the University impacts the broader community. Penn State senior Rhea Jha serves as co-host and rounds out each episode by asking Barron questions that are on the minds of students, faculty, staff and community members.
