Palmer Museum of Art announces 'The Art of Music' spring 2017 performances

Spring 2017 performances at the Palmer Museum of Art will take place on the following Wednesdays: Jan. 18, Feb. 15, March 15, and April 19. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —This semester, the Palmer Museum of Art will present the 12th season of “The Art of Music,” its popular music series featuring performers from the Penn State School of Music and the community. The entire community is invited to enjoy beautiful chamber music and virtuosic solo performances in the inspiring setting of the galleries. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

The spring 2017 schedule is as follows:

The Carillon Handbells of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, directed by Darrin Thornton, will perform "Hear the Bells Ringing: From Church to the Mainstream," at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Jennifer Trost, mezzo-soprano, and Svetlana Rodionova, piano, will perform "Beethoven’s Slippers," a monodrama by Judith Cloud, at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Mark Minnich and Sally Williams Minnich, violins, will perform "Revamped: An Orchestra of Two" at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15.

Charles Metz, a 1974 Penn State alumnus and guest artist, will perform "Music of the Elizabethan Period" on an Italian virginal from c. 1590 at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19.

Exhibitions on view at the Palmer Museum of Art this spring are "Eva Watson-Schütze: Pictorialist Portraits," Jan. 10 through April 30; "Morris Blackburn: Prints and Paintings in Process," Jan. 17 through April 30; and "A Kaleidoscope of Color: Studio Glass at the Palmer," Jan. 31 through April 30.

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is located on Curtin Road and admission is free. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and some holidays. The museum will have modified hours of noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, through Sunday, March 12. The museum will be closed Sunday, April 16, and Monday, May 1, through Monday, Sept. 4.
