Penn State alumnus to compete on 'Survivor'

Former Penn State Student Government President Ian Rosenberger has been named one of 20 contestants to compete in the 10th season of CBS' "Survivor." "Survivor: Palau"is set on a remote island in the South Pacific and will begin airing Feb. 17.

The 6-foot-8-inch tall Rosenberger, who beat out 50,000 potential contestants, should literally tower over his competition. While at Penn State, he majored in agricultural extension and educational leadership. He also served as the University's homecoming king, participated in Penn State Thespians and the Essence of Joy choir, and served as a teacher's assistant.

As student government president, he served as an advisory member of the Penn State Board of Trustees and as a voting member of the executive board of the Alumni Association. Rosenberger also worked closely with the University's administration on many issues, such as Penn State's Napster program and campus safety.

On his personal page on the "Survivor: Palau" Web site, he said he is most proud of participating in Penn State's Dance Marathon, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, where he did not sit or sleep for 48 hours and helped raise $3 million for children with cancer. He also lists as his favorite sports team the Nittany Lions.

Rosenberger, 23, is a native of Ambridge, where he attended Quigley Catholic High School in Baden. He also was a graduate of the Pennsylvania's Governor's School for Agricultural Sciences. Rosenberger is an American Red Cross certified lifeguard, a NAUI certified open water SCUBA diver and an Eagle Scout. He currently works as a dolphin trainer and dolphin-assisted therapist for children with disabilities in Key Largo, Fla.
