ERIE, Pa. — The autumn leaves won’t be the only splashes of color on display this fall at Penn State Behrend.
The campus’ second annual Faculty Arts Show opens Wednesday, Nov. 18, with a “Meet the Artists” reception in the Lilley Library gallery from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The show features works by faculty members from several departments within Penn State Behrend.
“I think that a key philosophy of Penn State is that ‘We Are’ whatever we want to be and ‘We Are’ each creative individuals, regardless of whether that creativity is an official part of our work,” said Heather Cole, lecturer in digital arts, who organized the show with Scott Rispin, lecturer in art. “I hope the show will bring faculty members and students together to talk about the artistic activities that we do. When we engage with our students in artistic endeavors, we can inspire them to create more and gain a greater appreciation of artistic work.”
The show, which will remain on display through February, is supported by the Mary Behrend Cultural Fund and co-sponsored by the arts administration program at Penn State Behrend.
“The show provides an excellent forum for the campus community to share its creative talent,” said Sharon Dale, associate professor of art history and chair of the arts administration program. “It has also given students an opportunity to help organize the show as part of an events planning course.”
The reception and show are free and open to the public, and some pieces may be for sale by the artists. Parking is available in the Reed Union Building lot or any visitor parking lots, and visitor-parking permits can be obtained from the Police Services office in Erie Hall.
