UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's Opera Theatre will present two performances of George Frideric Handel’s opera "Alcina" (concert version), at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 26. Both performances will be held in the intimate atmosphere of Esber Recital Hall.

A pivotal work of the High Baroque period, "Alcina" features the magnificent music of Handel and a fairy tale story based on Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem "Orlando Furioso." Magic, sorceresses, knights, love and despair are all part of this classic opera. Performed in Italian, "Alcina" features graduate students from the School of Music vocal performance program accompanied by a small chamber orchestra.
