UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State President Eric Barron will discuss resources available to the University’s military veteran and active-duty students during the next episode of WPSU Penn State’s “Higher Education in Focus” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, on WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM.

In the second part of the show’s “Serving Student Veterans” series, Barron will welcome two representatives from the Penn State Office of Veterans Programs — Director Brian Clark and Renee Thornton-Roop, a counselor and chair of the Military and Veteran Support Services Committee — for the 30-minute program.

The group will discuss the resources within the Office of Veterans Programs, which includes helping veterans access higher education, the counseling services offered on campus, and the handling of educational benefits. The panel will also share the key findings from two military surveys that focus on adult learners, as well as how Penn State defines being a military-friendly institution — a designation given to the University from many prominent organizations and publications.

During “Serving Student Veterans: Part I,” Barron discussed key challenges military students face on a college campus with three Penn State students and armed forces veterans. More than 4,500 students throughout the University’s Commonwealth Campus system and Penn State World Campus have direct military ties as either an active-duty service member, a reservist, veteran or military dependent.
