UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State College of Arts and Architecture will present artsUP — a free, appropriate-for-all-ages celebration of the arts — on Sunday, Sept. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Arts District on the University Park campus. Performances, exhibitions, demos, hands-on workshops and more will be held on the Eisenhower Auditorium patio, Palmer Museum of Art plaza and Walters Courtyard (located in front of the music and theatre buildings). Members of the Blue Band will kick off the event at noon, marching from Eisenhower Auditorium to the Palmer Museum via Curtin Road. Curtin Road will be closed from Shortlidge Road to North Allen Street for the duration of artsUP.

At 4 p.m., the Soul Rebels, a New Orleans-based brass band, will give a free concert in Eisenhower Auditorium. Tickets are required and can be picked up beginning Sept. 8 at Eisenhower Auditorium, the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center and the HUB-Robeson Center information desk.

“artsUP is intended not only to showcase our programs in the College of Arts and Architecture, but to celebrate the vital role the arts play in our community,” said Barbara Korner, dean of the College of Arts and Architecture. “This celebration will have something for everyone — you can help create a sculpture in front of the Palmer Museum, listen to a jazz ensemble, catch a printmaker at work and much more. We will also feature presentations by faculty members conducting research at the intersection of the arts and sciences. Please join us!”

Students from across the College of Arts and Architecture will be engaged in the event, as performers, visual artists, presenters and researchers. Students will lead demonstrations on ceramics, 3-D printing, and digital fabrication of prosthetic limbs, in addition to performing and engaging with attendees throughout the event.

“We are excited to showcase the work of the incredibly talented students and faculty whose creativity and enthusiasm make the Arts District such a dynamic and inspiring place — for those who study and work here, and those who attend our programs,” said Korner.

artsUP partners include the Office of the President and Executive Vice Provost, Office of Student Affairs and Penn State Parking Services. For more information, visit artsup.psu.edu.
