UNIVERSTY PARK, Pa. — Lois Weinthal, chair and professor in the School of Interior Design at Ryerson University in Toronto, will join the Stuckeman School at 6 p.m. on Feb. 10 as part of the school’s Virtual Lecture Series.

Her talk, titled “Elastic Poche,” looks to layers and surfaces that wrap and surround the interior with forms generated from techniques and notations that span clothing to architecture. The resulting design strategies allow qualities of elasticity and pliability to shape poche.

Weinthal’s research and practice investigate the relationship between architecture, interiors, clothing and objects resulting in works that take on an experimental nature. Her teaching explores these topics where theoretical discussions in seminars are put into practice in the design studio.

Her edited books include “Toward a New Interior: An Anthology of Interior Design Theory,” and she is co-editor of “After Taste: Expanded Practice in Interior Design” (both Princeton Architectural Press). A forthcoming book includes “Digital Fabrication in Interior Design: Body, Object, Enclosure” (Routledge), co-edited with Jonathon Anderson. 

Previously, Weinthal taught at The University of Texas at Austin and Parsons School of Design. She studied architecture at Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design. Currently, she holds the position of honorary professor at the Glasgow School of Art.
