The Penn State Student Programming Association announced the lineup for its third annual SPA Day celebration on Jan. 26, which will feature A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Scott Dikkers, a to-be announced noontime concert and activities all day throughout the HUB-Robeson Center.

Created as a way of promoting the Student Programming Association’s efforts to bring diverse talents and acts to Penn State students, SPA Day will highlight and feature performances by all programming arms of the organization (Concerts, Special Events, Lectures, Noontime and Edventures committees) in a one-day event.

The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. when SPA’s Special Events committee gives students the opportunity to make Lucky Bamboo, Street Signs and Sand Art on the first floor of the HUB-Robeson Center. This event will run until 2 p.m. or until supplies run out. Since its creation at the end of last year, the Special Events committee has brought many diverse events to students, such as Drain Your Brain, Wednesday Night Lights and Relaxation Week. The musical component of the day will kick off at noon with a to-be announced SPA noontime concert. Details on this show will be released as soon as possible. SPA’s Noontime Concert Series is a weekly event that takes place every Friday at noon in the HUB’s Noontime Lounge.

Throughout the day, the Edventures committee will be throughout the HUB-Robeson Center quizzing students on their SPA and pop culture knowledge to win fun prizes. Formed several years ago to create a new, educational component for SPA, the committee has held many events, such as bus trips to Washington, D.C. and New York City, a cultural fair and SPAmic Con.

At 7 p.m. in the HUB-Robeson Center’s Heritage Hall, Scott Dikkers will encourage participants to think outside the box and seize opportunities to create something new, because the potential for a crazy idea to succeed is greater than ever. He should know. As co-founder and longest-serving editor-in-chief of the Onion, Dikkers captivates audiences with the unlikely and hilarious story of how he and a few friends dropped out of college and started a fake newspaper, which evolved into the world’s very first humor website. This event is sponsored by the SPA Lectures committee, which is responsible for the Distinguished Speaker Series each academic year.

The day will conclude with the Concerts committee’s presentation of A Boogie wit da Hoodie. While A Boogie is still relatively new to the music scene, he has already found success through his song Drowning and his album "The Bigger Artist." The show will take place in Alumni Hall at 10 p.m. The performance is free for all students with a valid Penn State ID.
