Summer concert series to end with performances on June 23, 25

University Park, Pa. -- This week, Music at Penn's Woods will close out the summer's series of concerts on Penn State's University Park campus with a potpourri of music from Brahms, Beethoven, Poulenc and de Falla. At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, in Esber Recital Hall, the chamber music concert features Poulenc's "Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano" performed by Tim Hurtz, Daryl Durran, and Cecilia Dunoyer, followed by the beautiful Piano Trio No. 1 of Johannes Brahms, performed by Clara Lyon on violin; her sister Elizabeth Lyon on cello; and Svetlana Rodionova on piano.

At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, in Esber Recital Hall, the professional orchestra under the baton of Gerardo Edelstein will present de Falla's lively "Three-cornered Hat Suite No.1;" a beautiful and melodic work of Poulenc titled "Sinfonietta;" and a not-to-be-missed performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with soloist Enrico Elisi. A Penn State faculty member for the past three years, Elisi will join the faculty at the Eastman School of Music in September. This will be his farewell performance at Penn State.
