What's happening at Penn State? Here's a look at some of the cultural events taking place at the University over the next two weeks:

Performances

Casting Crowns, Hillsong Worship, Elevation Worship 7 p.m., Nov. 20, Bryce Jordan Center, University Park campus. The three Christian rock groups bring their USA Tour to Penn State. 

Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker7:30 p.m., Dec. 4, Pullo Center, Penn State York. The Moscow Ballet's Gift of Christmas Tour makes a stop at Penn State York.

Ivyside Pride Dec. 6-7, Wolf Kuhn Theatre, Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts, Penn State Altoona. Penn State Altoona's Ivyside Pride choral group will perform "For the Love of Singing," covering a range of genres from classical to spirituals and Christmas favorites.

 

Events

Friendsgiving Murder Mystery Dinner 7 p.m., Nov. 20, Pond View Lounge, Slep Student Center, Penn State Altoona. The annual event features a dinner and a murder-mystery performance. 

Café Laura Theme Dinner: "A Wizard's Feast: The Journey to Hogwarts" — Nov. 21, Mateer Building, University Park campus. Students in HM 430 Advanced Food Production and Service Management prepare a series of themed dinners throughout the semester to be served in the student-run Cafe Laura restaurant. Reservations required.

Buen Provecho" — Dec. 4, Mateer Building, University Park campus. Students in HM 430 Advanced Food Production and Service Management prepare a series of themed dinners throughout the semester to be served in the student-run Cafe Laura restaurant. Reservations required.

"Dr. Seuss' The Grinch" 4 p.m., Dec. 7, the Pullo Center, Penn State York. A screening of the "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch" animated film starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Free, but tickets required.

 

Lectures

"Perspectives on International Affairs and Diplomacy: A Conversation with Ambassador Karin Olofsdotter" 1 p.m., Nov. 21, Lewis Katz Building, University Park campus. The Swedish ambassador to the United States will visit Penn State. Free.

DeJon Lecture in Social Demography: Susan Short 9 a.m., Nov. 21, Nittany Lion Inn, University Park campus. Susan Short, professor of sociology and director of the Population Studies and Training Center at Brown University, will discuss her work on changing social and political environments and their implications for family dynamics, gender, health and well-being. Free.

Huddle with the Faculty: Sujit Pujhari 9 a.m., Nov. 30, Nittany Lion Inn, University Park campus. Sujit Pujhari, assistant research professor in the Department of Entomology's Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics will present "Mosquito-borne Viral Infections: A Global Problem." Free.

Penn State Forum: Maxwell King 11:30 a.m., Dec. 4, President's Hall, Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center. Maxwell King, former president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Foundation, will present "The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers."

Penn State Altoona Distinguished Speaker Series: Mitch Albom7 p.m., Dec. 3, Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts, Penn State Altoona. Bestselling author and sports writer Mitch Albom will visit the Altoona campus. Free, but ticket required.

 

Exhibits

"Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman" — Through Dec. 8, Palmer Museum of Art, University Park campus. Nearly 80 objects, including sculptures, paintings, works on paper, and archival material highlight this reassessment of Harlem Renaissance artist Augusta Savage. Free.

"Field to Front: Nittany Lions at War, 1917-1919" Through Dec. 13, Campus Library, Penn State Scranton. The Penn State All-Sports Museum exhibit on World War I visits the library at the Scranton campus. Free.

"Strewn, Hither and Thither" Through Dec. 15, Art Alley, HUB-Robeson Galleries, University Park campus. A solo exhibition of inflatables by artist Claire Ashley. Free.

"Bauhaus Transfers: Albers/Rauschenberg" — Through Dec. 15, Palmer Museum of Art, University Park campus. The museum celebrates the centenary of the Bauhaus, the influential school founded in Weimer, Germany, that unifies fine arts, design and architecture in its curriculum. Free.

"The Web of Life: John Biggers and the Power of Pedagogy" — Through Dec. 15, Palmer Museum of Art, University Park campus. The exhibit spotlights the work of artist John Biggers in relation to two important mentors, artist Charles White and famed art educator Viktor Lowenfeld. Free.

"Fantasy and Reality: The World According to Félix Buhot" — Through Dec. 15, Palmer Museum of Art, University Park campus. The museum spotlights one of the most original French printmakers of the 19th century. Free.

"Folded Section" — Through Jan. 10, 2020, Woskob Family Gallery, 146 S. Allen St., State College. The gallery is displaying an ambitious new wall drawing that explores the local landscape. Free.

"Ghosts" — Through Feb. 2, 2020, HUB-Robeson Galleries, HUB-Robeson Center, University Park campus. An exhibition of works selected from the School of Visual Arts' collection of bisque ware, known as the Bisque Library. Free.
