UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG) will reveal a years-long project, the DMAIG Mosaic, in an event at 11 a.m. on Feb. 18, outside of the THON Store at the HUB-Robeson Center. The mosaic is a collection of photographs submitted by Penn State students, alumni, THON volunteers and THON supporters from around the globe. The reveal is a culmination of years of hard work and will take place during the weekend of the 2017 Penn State Dance Marathon.
During the unveiling event, attendees will hear from Jeff Reyes, Penn State alumnus and president of DMAIG, as well as Melanie Harris and Ashley Waters, alumnae and DMAIG volunteers who led the project from planning stages to completion. In addition, Paul J. Clifford, CEO of the Penn State Alumni Association, will say a few words about the massive project and its impact on campus.
“Our DMAIG volunteers were able to tap into the love that alumni have for THON and leverage that into more support for this great cause,” said Clifford. “The mosaic will be a permanent reminder of the power of the Penn State network and the amazing impact that alumni volunteers have at Penn State.”
The project raised over $47,000 for the Penn State Dance Marathon, and includes one photo from every THON from years 1973-2016. For those who cannot attend the event, DMAIG will be broadcasting the reveal via a Facebook Live stream on the DMAIG Facebook page.
Penn State’s alumni and friends are invaluable partners in fulfilling the University’s land-grant mission of education, research and service. Private gifts from alumni and friends enrich the experiences of students both in and out of the classroom, expand the research and teaching capacity of faculty, enhance the University’s ability to recruit and retain top students and faculty, and help to ensure that students from every economic background have access to a Penn State education. The University’s colleges and campuses are now enlisting the support of alumni and friends to advance a range of unit-specific initiatives.
DMAIG is an affiliate group of the Penn State Alumni Association that promises to promote a continuing relationship between students and alumni who care about THON by providing opportunities for alumni to give time, money and resources to aid Four Diamonds in the conquering of childhood cancer. This project, which includes over 1,600 photographs, commemorates the first time that a Penn State Alumni Interest Group has placed a permanent installation on the Penn State University Park campus.
