UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — It’s not every day that America’s top female brass players get together for a concert.

That’s what makes this month’s Logan Series concert at Penn State Behrend even more special.

“Seraph Brass possesses a deep musical bench,” wrote Harry Kollatz Jr. for Richmond Magazine. “All the members have traveled extensively with various organizations. They live in separate places and unite for these events, which is a common practice for many of these chamber groups.”

Seraph Brass, a dynamic brass quintet that includes some of America’s top female brass players, will perform Monday, Oct. 24, at Penn State Behrend, as part of Music at Noon: The Logan Series. The performance takes place at noon in McGarvey Commons, in the campus' Reed Union Building. Admission is free, and reserved parking for audience members will be available in the Reed lot.

Members of Seraph have performed with several prestigious ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Musicians from Marlboro, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand.

The quintet recently commissioned and premiered “Wolf” for solo soprano and brass quintet from Philadelphia-based composer Joseph Hallman and has had several arrangements made by trumpeter Jeff Luke and composer Thomas Oltarzewski.

Music at Noon: The Logan Series was founded by Mrs. Kay Logan in 1989 and receives major support from the Kay Logan Trust. Additional funding is provided by the Penn State Behrend Student Activity Fee. Music at Noon receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Additional support for this program is provided in part from an Erie Arts & Culture Project Grant, made possible by community contributions to the Combined Arts & Cultural Campaign and the Erie Arts Endowment.
