Penn State Behrend’s Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will both hold spring concerts later this month at the college.
The Concert Band’s spring performance, “Earth, Water, Sky, and Wind: An Earth Day Celebration” will be performed at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building on campus. The Jazz Ensemble’s spring concert will be held at the same time and location on Monday, April 25.
“Earth, Water, Sky, and Wind: An Earth Day Celebration” will include the world premiere of “Presque Isle” by Beata Moon, which was commissioned by the band with support from the Endowment Fund of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The concert’s soloist will be lecturer in music Joel Hunt, alto saxophone, who will perform John Williams’ “Catch Me if You Can.”
The Jazz Ensemble’s concert on April 25 will include arrangements by Mike McGough, Dave Rivello and Mike Tomaro. Guest trumpet and flügelhorn player Mike Kaupa will join the ensemble on a number of selections as a featured guest soloist. Several student soloists and the Penn State Behrend Jazz Combo will perform as well.
Admission to both concerts is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Gary Viebranz at gav3@psu.edu or Hunt at jvh12@psu.edu.
