UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's hockey freshman Jessica Adolfsson has been named to the Swedish National Team roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championships to be held in Espoo, Finland, April 4-14.
The 2019 World Championship will mark the second international tournament Adolfsson has played for Sweden this school year. She played in all four of Sweden's games in the Four Nations Cup back in November 2018.
"I've really been impressed with Jess from day one," said Head Coach Jeff Kampersal. "She is a great teammate, someone who works hard, takes care of her training, and takes initiative in all aspects of her life. Jess is very deserving of this opportunity to represent Team Sweden at the World Championships. I'm grateful I get to coach her every day at Penn State."
In just her first season with Penn State, Adolfsson became one of the Nittany Lions top blue liners who was effective all over the ice. For her efforts, she was named to the All-CHA Rookie Team.
Adolfsson scored five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 36 games played. Four of her goals were scored on the power play. The Linkoping, Sweden native also finished second on the team with 57 blocked shots.
Adolfsson played her best hockey down the stretch with five points in the last nine games of the season for Penn State and often matched up against opposing teams' top-scoring lines. She scored the first goal of the game for Penn State in the Nittany Lions' 4-1 win over RIT in the first round of the CHA Tournament March 6.
Adolfsson has plenty of international experience in her young career with 30 games played with the Swedish National Team and an additional 33 games with the U18 Swedish squad. Over those 63 games, she has 28 points with 11 goals and 17 helpers.
Team Sweden is stationed in Group B in the World Championships and will play the opening game of the tournament against Germany April 4.
