MEDIA, Pa. — Penn State University Athletic Conference basketball season came to an end last week and the Penn State Brandywine women’s basketball team has earned the No. 4 seed in this week’s conference tournament.
Brandywine, which posted a conference record of 11-3, will host No. 5 Penn State Fayette in a quarterfinal on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The teams are meeting in the quarterfinals for the second-straight season after Brandywine posted a road victory over Fayette by a score of 89-75 last year.
The Lions, who have won three conference titles, most recently in 2010-11, went 1-1 during their final week of the regular season. Brandywine pulled away from York for a 66-50 Senior Night victory on Tuesday behind a career night from sophomore Brandi James. James tallied 23 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. The Lions dropped their final game at regular-season champion Penn State Lehigh Valley by a 78-36 count on Friday.
Wednesday night will also be an opportunity for 11th-year Head Coach Larry Johnson to win his 200th career game. Johnson enters the night owning a 199-100 (.665) career record. His teams have won at least 18 games nine times, including each of the past four seasons, and have reached the PSUAC Tournament semifinals during 10-straight years.
The Brandywine men’s basketball team saw its season come to a conclusion following an 87-72 loss at Lehigh Valley on Friday night. The team finished the year with a record of 6-19 and posted five conference victories.
Freshman Isaiah Wilmore scored 17 of his team-high 21 points in the second half against Lehigh Valley. Wilmore was the leading scorer all season for the Lions, averaging 14.2 points in 25 games.
With a victory on Wednesday night, Brandywine women’s basketball would travel to Penn State York, the site of this year’s men’s and women’s tournaments, this weekend. Top-seeded Lehigh Valley awaits in the semifinals before Sunday’s title game at 3 p.m.
Sunday will also be the beginning of Brandywine baseball season. The Lions will open the 2017 campaign with a doubleheader against Cabrini at West Chester University with first pitch of game one slated for 11 a.m.
