ERIE, Pa. — The men’s soccer team at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, defeated John Carroll University, which was ranked No. 24 in the United Soccer Coaches Division III preseason poll.
The college’s tennis, volleyball, golf and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Ryan Maurer, a senior from Cranberry Township, scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to lift the Lions over Hiram.

Penn State Behrend 3, Bard 0
Brenna McGuire, a freshman from McDonald, scored two goals against Bard. Emily Indof, a sophomore from Greensburg, added the third.

Fredonia 9, Penn State Behrend 0
Emily Hood, a freshman from Pittsburgh, won at No. 5 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-4.

Penn State Behrend 3, St. Vincent 0
Penn State Behrend 3, Marietta 1
Lexi Irwin, a senior from Greensburg, had 32 assists and 20 digs against Westminster. She had 30 assists and 12 digs against St. Vincent.
Men’s golf
Ninth (of 14 teams) at the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Invitational at Allegheny.
Alex Pol, a freshman from Erie, tied for 15th overall. He finished with a two-day score of 153.
Men’s water polo
Mercyhurst 10, Penn State Behrend 6
Caltech 9, Penn State Behrend 8
Salem International 17, Penn State Behrend 7
Isaak Hatopp, a junior from Saline, Michigan, scored three goals against Caltech. He had four field blocks and three steals against Mercyhurst.
