ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s soccer teams opened the 2021 season with wins at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. The men’s team defeated Baldwin Wallace, 4-1, in the title game; the women’s team defeated Wooster, 3-1.
Cameron Eckberg, a senior from Westmoreland City, was named MVP of the men’s tournament. Trinity Prestash, a freshman from Philipsburg, won MVP honors in the women’s bracket.

Cameron Eckberg, a senior from Westmoreland City, scored back-to-back goals against SUNY Morrisville. Chris Profaca, a freshman from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, added two more.

The victory over Wooster was the 200th career win for Behrend Coach Patrick O’Driscoll.
Men’s cross-country
Third (of four teams) at the Houghton Invitational
Phoenix Myers, a senior from Erie, was the fastest of Behrend’s 11 runners. He placed eighth, finishing the 5K race in 16:20.59.
Women’s cross-country
Third (of four teams) at the Houghton Invitational
Olivia Nola, a freshman from Erie, paced the Lions, finishing 13th in a field of 45 runners. She completed the 4K race in 16:16.09.

Maddie Clapper, a graduate student from Hollidaysburg, served seven aces in a row against SUNY Canton. She had a team-best 12 digs against Alfred. Keely Hering, a senior from North East, had a team-best 13 digs and 12 kills against Potsdam.
Men’s golf
Third (of 10 teams) at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational
Phil Pedano, a freshman from Erie, placed fourth in a field of 51 golfers. He shot a 75.
Men’s water polo
Washington & Jefferson 19, Penn State Behrend 8
Ryan Kenney, a junior from Skippack, led the Lions with four goals. Leyton Vrono, a freshman from Murrieta, California, made six saves.
