ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend track and field teams won the Colonial State Athletic Conference (CSAC) championships at Gwynedd Valley on May 6. Rachel Pell, a senior from Elizabeth, was named Track Athlete of the Year.
The college’s baseball and softball teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:
Baseball
Penn State Behrend 4, Hilbert 1

Jack Herzing, a senior from St. Mary’s, pitched a complete game in the opener. He struck out 13 and allowed only three hits.
Softball
Mt. Aloysius 6, Penn State Behrend 3

Penn State Behrend 1, Penn State Altoona 0
Mt. Aloysius 3, Penn State Behrend 2 (8 innings)
The Lions lost to Mt. Aloysius in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship game. The team travels to Alvernia for the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III tournament on May 9.
Men’s track and field
First (of seven teams) at the Colonial State Athletic Conference championships.
Matt Michael, a freshman from Erie, won the shot put and discus events. Braeden Smith, a freshman from Erie, won the high jump. The Lions also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Women’s track and field
First (of seven teams) at the Colonial State Athletic Conference championships.
Rachel Pell, a senior from Elizabeth, won the 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles. Tiayerra Stroncek, a freshman from Pittsburgh, won the heptathlon.
