UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Instant replay in Major League Baseball, mid-game interviews and players calling for restricted media access.

A Pennsylvania team making the finals of the ever-more-popular Little League World Series.

Penn State traveling to Cuba and taking the first victory by an American team over a top-level club from that baseball-crazy nation.

There’s a lot going on in baseball these days, both on and off the field.

All those topics and more will be discussed during a free public session focusing on the national pastime beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, in Foster Auditorium of Paterno Library. The session, “Hot Stove Night,” is sponsored by the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism.

The conversation will feature Rob Biertempfel, a baseball writer for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who earned his Penn State journalism degree in 1987; Brian McClintock, senior director of communications for the Little League World Series; and Penn State baseball coach Rob Cooper. John Affleck, the Knight Chair in Journalism and Society and director of the Curley Center, will moderate.

“The first week of February seemed to me like the perfect time to look ahead to the spring and baseball,” Affleck said. “We’ll look at some of the current issues for the game at all levels, with a particular eye on the media piece, and we’ll have some fun looking ahead to the 2016 season and the big stories we see ahead. It should be a fun night.”
