UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A quartet of Penn State men’s golf student-athletes have been selected to the PING All-Northeast Region Team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.Nittany Lions JD Dornes (Lancaster), Chris Houston (Gilford, New Hampshire), Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Georgia) and Cole Miller (New Tripoli) were selected to the squad. A total of 156 players across six regions were selected.Dornes earned his third consecutive PING All-Region honor, Miller garnered his second consecutive, and Houston, a senior this spring, also earned his second career All-Region recognition.Penn State led all schools in the Northeast Region with its four selections and was tied with Illinois (Midwest Region) for the most honorees among Big Ten Conference institutions.The quartet led the Nittany Lions, coached by Greg Nye, to their 22nd NCAA championship regional appearance in May. Dornes, a senior this past spring, finished in a tie for 12th at the NCAA regional. Huntzinger was the 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year.Dornes and Miller, a rising junior, were competing Monday in U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying in Rockville, Maryland. Former Penn State men’s golfers Kevin Foley and Travis (T.J.) Howe also were competing in U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying on Monday. The U.S. Open is June 16-19 at Oakmont Country Club in suburban Pittsburgh.
