University Park, Pa. -- Will Hoover will join the Penn State baseball coaching staff, head coach Robbie Wine announced. Wine also announced Seb Saraceno, formerly a volunteer assistant coach, will handle baseball operations and administrative duties.
Hoover managed the Cedar Cliff High School (Camp Hill, Pa.) varsity baseball team. During his tenure, the Colts amassed 149 victories and reached post-season play 149 times. He was honored with the Mid-Penn Conference Baseball Coach of the Year award in 2005 when he led Cedar Cliff to a conference championship. Hoover graduated 45 academic all-conference players and 96 percent of his players went on to college.
"With his experience being a high school coach for 10 years, he has a lot baseball knowledge from professional and high school levels," head coach Robbie Wine said. "He has a lot of energy and desire, and he wants to coach."
Hoover comes to Penn State with baseball experience behind him. Drafted as a catcher by the Colorado Rockies in 1993, he played in both the Rockies and New York Mets farm systems.
Upon the end of his playing career, Hoover served as a professional player development consultant and a scout. He was employed as an associate scout for the Colorado Rockies for eight years. Hoover also is an advance scout for Inside Edge Inc. Baseball Info Solutions and the Baseline Group/Dugout Central Inc. baseball consulting services.
He also was selected as the head baseball coach for Capitol Region for the 2003-08 Pennsylvania State Keystone Games and has been a color analyst for PA SportsFever Television Network.
Hoover holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He currently serves as vice president of marketing for Hoover Rehabilitation Services Inc., the largest privately held health and disability management firm in the Mid-Atlantic.
