Kaluza appointed associate athletic director for finance

University Park, Pa. —Penn State Director of Athletics Tim Curley Friday (Jan. 30) announced the appointment of Rick Kaluza to the position of associate athletic director for finance.

Kaluza began his duties earlier this month after spending the past four years working with Intercollegiate Athletics as assistant controller in the Corporate Controller's Office, under the direction of Joe Doncsecz. Over the past four years, he worked closely with long-time Athletics Financial Officer, George Patrick, who retired in 2008.

A Penn State graduate, Kaluza will oversee all aspects of Intercollegiate Athletics' financial operations, including budget management, strategic planning, financial reporting and analysis, capital projects and contract proposals.

"Rick has done an outstanding job the past four years working with Intercollegiate Athletics out of the Corporate Controller's Office," said Curley. "He brings an extensive knowledge and background of the strategic objectives of the department and the financial and budgetary challenges we face in order to try and reach our goals of providing the best opportunities we can for our 800 student-athletes and the students that participate in our club and intramural sport programs. I am looking forward to the leadership and expertise Rick will provide in this critical position."

"Overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the department and continuing to provide support to both Tim Curley and Joe Doncsecz on issues concerning Intercollegiate Athletics' ongoing strategic, financial and budget planning is a tremendous opportunity. I look forward to my new leadership role as well as continuing to work with the department's administrators, budget executives, coaches and support staff, as well as others across the university in working towards fiscally responsible solutions in a challenging environment."

Kaluza returned to his alma mater in November, 2004 as an Assistant Controller - Financial & Strategic Support Services. Over the past four years, he has worked closely with the University's Finance and Business Office, as well as Curley, Patrick and other members of the Intercollegiate Athletics' administrative staff on numerous financial and strategic initiatives.

Kaluza graduated with distinction with a degree in accounting from Penn State in 1986. He worked at Arthur Andersen & Co. in Philadelphia for four years. In 1990, he joined Bellefonte Lime Co., Inc. in Bellefonte, Pa., serving in several capacities, including Controller, Vice President for Strategic Planning and a Project Manager for Graymont Inc., which purchased Bellefonte Lime Co., Inc. Klauza was based in Graymont's Bellingham, Wash. Office for four years before accepting the Assistant Controller position at Penn State in 2004.

A native of Exton, Pa., Kaluza is a committee member for Penn State Basketball's Coaches vs. Cancer initiatives and coaches youth baseball, basketball, soccer and wrestling in the Centre Region.

Kaluza and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Tyler and Morgan, and reside in State College.
