UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women's soccer alums Ali Krieger and Alyssa Naeher have been named to the U.S. Women's National Team World Cup roster announced by USWNT head coach Jill Ellis. The two former Nittany Lions were selected as part of the 23 players who will represent the United States in France this summer.
Krieger is set to appear in her third Women's World Cup. She currently has the second-most World Cup caps on the roster with 13 and was a member of the 2011 and 2015 World Cup squads for the US. Krieger has appeared in 99 matches in her USWNT career. She was a three-time All-American while at Penn State.
Returning for her second Women's World Cup team, Alyssa Naeher has been a mainstay on the USWNT team since 2014. Along with Krieger, the US won the 2015 World Cup, the third championship in US history. Naeher was also a three-time All-American during her time as a Nittany Lion.
"We are thrilled that Ali and Alyssa will be representing our country at the 2019 World Cup in France! They were both outstanding student-athletes during their time at Penn State and are wonderful role models. We can't wait to see them shine as a part of Team USA on the world stage!" head coach Erica Dambach said.
Prior to World Cup competition, the USWNT will play three friendlies as a part of the Send-Off Series from May 12-26 before traveling to France for the World Cup.
