Lehigh Valley men’s, women’s basketball teams have history making seasons

The Penn State Lehigh Valley 2014-15 basketball season was one for the record books for both men’s and women’s teams. The men’s team advanced to the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) championship tournament for the first time in their short history, and the women’s team advanced to the PSUAC playoffs and received their first-ever bid to the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association’s (USCAA) Basketball National Championship tournament.

The women’s team, under the leadership of new head coach Lorie Khalil, and in its second year as a campus sport, finished their conference regular season 11-3. The team has established itself as a dominant competitor throughout the season resulting in wins over some of the top-ranked teams in the conference.

Additionally, Emmaus High School graduate and freshman Andrea Watkins led the conference for most of the season in points per game at 19.5. Taylor Russell was ranked third in the conference in rebounds per game with 10.4, and both Watkins and Ashley Husser were ranked in the top five in field goal percentage.

"I am so proud of this team and all they accomplished this season,” stated Khalil, “we faced adversity all season long but they stayed strong, committed and worked together to make history. They were an extraordinary group of people to coach. They have represented our institution well, and I know they will continue to make PSU-LV proud."

The men’s team, now in its third year with head coach Anthony Ross, finished their conference regular season 8-7, earning their first-ever Division III victory over Penn State Abington. Joe Wiggins was ranked third in the conference in points per game at 21.7.

“I’ll really miss the amazing chemistry that we had,” said freshman player Kereece Seuren, “we’re ready for next year.”
