NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — In his last home game, senior Jordan Williams broke the 1,000-career-point barrier Feb. 7 as he scored 27 points to lead Penn State New Kensington to an 82-72 victory over Penn State Beaver in the Athletics Center.
With a three-pointer in the second half, Williams became the third New Kensington player in 13 years to reach the coveted milestone. Justin Reed in 2011 and Dan Polizzano in 2004 were the last to turn the trick.
The 5-foot-6-inch guard averaged 13 points in 77 career games. Since his freshman year, when he scored 166 points, he has been a steady contributor to head coach Art McCray’s team. As a sophomore, he scored 296 points and as a junior, he tallied 294 points. This year, the East Allegheny High School product scored 247 points, a 13-point average, which matches his career statistics.
After breaching the chiliad (1000-point) mark, the game was stopped and Williams received a standing ovation from the teams and fans in the stands. The psychology major from North Versailles was presented the game ball at midcourt.
The 27 points against Beaver was the third highest output for Williams this season. He scored 28 in the victory over Davis College Nov. 4 in the John Benchoff Tournament at Penn State Mont Alto. Williams was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 42 points in the tournament. He notched a career-high 35 in an 87-84 loss to Penn State Fayette in December.
The New Kensington Lions, 5-10 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference and 7-13 overall, close out the season at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, with a PSUAC rematch at Fayette, 6-8, 9-14.
