UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State will be the site of four different tennis camps this June as Nittany Lion tennis head coaches Dawna Denny and Jeff Zinn prepare for two camps and two day camps in the upcoming weeks.
The Penn State Tennis Camps are open to students in grades 5-12 next fall. High school graduates are also eligible to enroll. Camp one runs June 17-21 and camp two runs June 24-28. The camps are designed to provide individualized instruction to middle school players, who are preparing for high school tennis, and tournament and high school players, while taking into account the performance levels of the campers. All camps include court drills to reinforce strategy concepts, supervised match play and round-robin and team tennis. An added feature for this summer's camps is clay court training, which can highlight strategy and point construction tactics. These camps will also utilize indoor court facilities for additional training opportunities and inclement weather.
The Penn State Tennis Camps are $650 per resident, which covers instruction, housing, meals and camp shirt. There is no commuter offering for these camps. Meals include dinner on the first day through lunch on the final day.
The Penn State Tennis Day Camps are designed to provide individualized instruction to players in grades 3-12. Because individual instruction is emphasized, campers are grouped according to age, ability, experience, maturity and competitive spirit. The outstanding staff provides each player with the highest-quality tennis instruction, geared toward improving every aspect of the camper's game. For beginners and younger participants, a main point of emphasis during these camps is the QuickStart program. This method of teaching tennis uses age appropriate equipment and smaller court sizes to accelerate learning while having fun. Each Tennis Day Camp runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Penn State Tennis Day Camps are $450 per commuter, which covers instruction, a camp shirt and lunch Monday through Thursday.
The camps will be run by women's tennis coach Dawna Denny and her staff and men's head coach Jeff Zinn and his staff. Registration for the camps is easy via http://www.gopsusports.com/camps/tennis-About.html and is open now. The 2012 Penn State Tennis Camps are presented by Dick's Sporting Goods.
