Patrick Chambers joins Coaches Caravan; registration ongoing

Signature event to visit New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., from May 8–10

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Men's Basketball Head Coach Patrick Chambers will join the 2018 Penn State Coaches Caravan, with registration ongoing for the three evening events. 

Fresh off winning the NIT championship and leading the men's basketball team to 26 wins — second-best in program history — Chambers will attend all three events, along with Head Football Coach James Franklin, Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour, Field Hockey Head Coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss, and Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Russ Rose.

Barbour and the Penn State coaches will travel to New York City on May 8Philadelphia on May 9 and Washington, D.C., on May 10.

As a benefit of membership, registration is open only to members of either the Penn State Alumni Association or Nittany Lion Club, and each member who registers can bring a guest at the member price.

Jointly sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club, this will be the sixth edition of the Penn State Coaches Caravan.

Each of the events will feature a meet-and-greet with Barbour and the coaches during the evening receptions prior to the programs.

Franklin will meet with alumni and fans and talk about Penn State's 2017 season that ended with 11 wins, a top 10 national ranking, and a Fiesta Bowl victory, as well as preparations for the 2018 campaign, and how all Penn State alumni and fans can help build on Penn State football's tradition of excellence.

Also at each event, alumni, friends and fans will hear an update from Barbour on the Nittany Lions' nationally recognized 31-sport athletic program and learn more about the academic and athletic achievements of 800 student-athletes — all while connecting with fellow Penn Staters.

Morett-Curtiss has led Penn State for 31 seasons and is an inductee of both the USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame and National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She’s won more than 500 games (nearly all at Penn State), and the Nittany Lions qualified for the NCAA quarterfinals last season.

In nearly 40 seasons at Penn State, Rose has accumulated more than 1,000 career wins and seven national championships. His teams have also won 16 Big Ten titles, and in 2013, Rose received the Alumni Association’s Honorary Alumni Award. Both he and Morett-Curtiss will share updates and insights into the success they’ve achieved at Penn State.
