Penn State has announced the hiring of Matt Jakoubek as the senior associate athletics director for compliance today (July 5). Jakoubek comes to Happy Valley after spending 10 years at Louisiana State University (LSU) in the athletics compliance office.

“Matt will be an outstanding leader for the Intercollegiate Athletics compliance team at a time of significant change in the athletics landscape,” said Penn State Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer Tabitha Oman. “I am thrilled to welcome him to the team.”

Jakoubek will lead the strategic direction for Penn State Athletics within the Office of Ethics and Compliance pertaining to all matters related to NCAA, Big Ten and institutional policies, procedures and rules. In addition to supervising the Penn State Athletics compliance department, Jakoubek will serve as a member of Intercollegiate Athletics’ senior leadership team and partner with coaches and staff to lead Penn State’s compliance operation in positioning all 31 of Penn State’s teams for success, on and off the field.

“Matt is a veteran compliance director who brings a strong vision for the future of our compliance office in this ever-changing college athletics space,” said Penn State Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Patrick Kraft. “He impressed us during the interview process with his knowledge and experiences in an SEC compliance department. We are excited to have Matt join Penn State.”

A native of Garner, Iowa, Jakoubek served as LSU’s assistant AD for compliance since November 2019. Prior to his promotion, he also held the titles of director of compliance and compliance coordinator for the Tigers. In his roles at LSU, Jakoubek provided direction to the department’s coaches, staff and student-athletes regarding rules and regulations for the NCAA, SEC and institution.

Prior to his time at LSU, Jakoubek spent two and a half years at the University of Rhode Island (URI) as a compliance coordinator. He handled URI’s day-to-day operations in compliance and maintained the Athlete-Agent Registration Program to help student-athletes and their parents with the agent process. Jakoubek also spent one year as an intern at Colorado State University in 2008.

Jakoubek earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 2005 from the University of Northern Iowa and a master of education in 2010.
