YORK, Pa. — Baseball season is just around the corner, and the Penn State York baseball team is headed to Florida during spring break for spring training, the perfect opportunity for players to focus on improving their baseball skills while gaining game experience prior to the start of the season.
The team will depart from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport on Sunday, March 6, and take on Western Michigan at 7:30 p.m. in Plant City, Florida. The team will play four exhibition games between March 7 and 10 before returning home on Friday, March 11. Classes resume on Monday, March 14.
This is the third year that the York team has traveled to Florida to play a number of club teams and practice in a warmer climate. The games are played through the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA).
After returning home, the team will participate in a few non-conference games in March prior to beginning the official season on Tuesday, March 29, at 2 and 4 p.m., with a home doubleheader against Penn State Worthington Scranton. This is official start of the Penn State University Athletic Association (PSUAC) season for York.
All games are free and open to the public. Home games are played at Shryock Field, located at 2640 S. Queen Street in York.
At a special event on April 23, York will take on Penn State Mont Alto in a doubleheader at PeoplesBank Park, home of the York Revolution, a professional baseball team based in York. The games are set for 2 and 4 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
