Six field hockey players earn NFHCA National All-Academic laurels

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Sixteen members of the Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team have been named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National All-Academic Squad. Head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' team had three of those honorees named Scholars of Distinction.

This year, 940 student-athletes from 76 Division I institutions earned recognition on the squad. The Division I National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year. 

Over half of the Penn State roster, 16, were honored with the national award: Freshman Brie Barraco; senior Colleen Conway; sophomore Alexis Horst; sophomore Madison Hutson; senior Cassie Kline; senior Emily Klingler; senior Lauren McNally; senior Aurelia Meijer; junior Madison Morano; sophomore Abby Myers; freshman Eleni Prodes; senior Jenny Rizzo; freshman Anna Simon; senior Mary Nell Smith; sophomore Emma Spisak and senior Lisa Winters.
 
Five of the above list were noted as having earned the honor all four years of their Nittany Lion careers, including Conway, Kline, Meijer, Smith and Winters.
 
This year, 140 student-athletes were recognized as Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction. The Division I Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.
