UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics will highlight the varied and numerous achievements of its 800 student-athletes during the first STATE of Excellence Week, set for Sept. 26 to Oct. 1.
The Nittany Lions will celebrate four aspects of student-athlete success and experience — cultural, social, academic and athletic — with a different facet highlighted each day from Sept. 26 to 29. The week will culminate with team and individual champions being recognized at the Minnesota football game in Beaver Stadium on Oct. 1 (3:30 p.m. kick).
The student-athlete achievements will be celebrated via a series of events, video presentations and social media throughout the week.
“I am excited to launch our STATE of Excellence Week and recognize the accomplishments of our outstanding student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics Sandy Barbour. “All Penn Staters should be proud of the dedication and persistence our students demonstrate whether they are competing, with their academic pursuits and community engagement. This will be a special week celebrating the many achievements of our student-athletes.”
Penn State has one of the nation’s most comprehensive and successful athletic programs in the nation, with 800 student-athletes across 31 programs (16 men’s and 15 women’s). Penn State student-athletes have an NCAA Graduation Success Rate of 88 percent and have earned 193 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, the fourth-highest total among Division I programs.
