Student-athletes honored at Penn State York athletic banquet

Penn State York honored its student-athletes and coaches at the 45th annual Athletic Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 7, at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York, Pennsylvania.

Twenty-one Penn State York student-athletes earned the distinction of Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Academic All-Conference. This honor is bestowed on those student-athletes who have a semester grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the semester of competition, or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and completion of at least 24 credits. Recipients and their sports are: Rebekah Adams, York, Pennsylvania, women’s basketball; Abdulla Mohammad Alnaqbi, York, Pennsylvania, soccer; Victor M. Aragon-Rodriquez, York, Pennsylvania, soccer; Christian M. Buser, Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball; Sebastian Garcia Cevallos, York, Pennsylvania, soccer; Damien H. Hamler, Randallstown, Maryland; men’s basketball; Ahmad Hilman Harizon, York, Pennsylvania, soccer; Bradania E. Harrington, Felton, Pennsylvania, women’s basketball; Mohammad Fakhry Jelani, York, Pennsylvania, soccer; Charizma J. Johnson, York, Pennsylvania, women’s basketball; Brady C. Shaffer, York, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball; Tyler R. Spencer, York, Pennsylvania, baseball; Levi S. Stein, York, Pennsylvania, baseball; Kent S. Walker, York, Pennsylvania, baseball; and Andrew Wells, York, Pennsylvania, soccer.

Two student-athletes earned PSUAC First Team All-Conference honors. They are: Paul S. Ambrose, Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, soccer; and Jonathan A. Taylor, Dover, Pennsylvania, soccer. Three student-athletes earned PSUAC Second Team All-Conference honors. They are: Jeremy A. Weibley, Manchester, Pennsylvania, soccer; Judd A. Gemmill, York, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball; and Trent D. Thomas, Red Lion, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball. PSUAC All-Conference Honorable Mention went to Kathryn McNamara, York, Pennsylvania, women’s basketball.York athletes were also honored by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Paul S. Ambrose, Stewartstown, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball and Tessa N. Miller, York, Pennsylvania, women’s basketball, were named to the USCAA All-Academic Team. This honor is bestowed on those student-athletes who have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher during the semester of competition or a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and completion of at least 24 credits. Trent D. Thomas, Red Lion, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball, was named to the USCAA All-American Honorable Mention.Judd A. Gemmill, York, Pennsylvania, men’s basketball, received the Trimmer Award in basketball. This award is named in honor of Ron Trimmer, the late former Penn State York basketball coach, and is given to the most improved player. Martin was also named to the USCAA championship all-tournament team.

Mohammad Fakhry Jelani, York, Pennsylvania, soccer, received the Broadbent Award given in honor of Bruce Broadbent, former assistant professor of kinesiology at the campus and division head of health and human development at the Commonwealth College. Broadbent was the campus’ first athletic director and worked for more than 30 years to promote the campus’ athletic programs.Camden Nace, Hanover, Pennsylvania, soccer, received the Christopher C. Miller Sportsmanship Award for soccer. This award is given to an athlete who displays a high level of sportsmanship not only on the soccer field but also in everyday life. The award was established in 2002 to honor the late Christopher C. Miller, the son of former Penn State York soccer coach George Miller, who passed away on July 9, 2001, at the age of 16. During his soccer career, Christopher played between 350 and 400 soccer games and never received a yellow or red card for unsportsmanlike play.
