UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Terrence Samuel has signed with the Penn State men’s basketball team, Patrick Chambers, head coach of the Nittany Lions, announced Wednesday. Samuel played two years at the University of Connecticut and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2015-16 campaign to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
A member of the Huskies’ 2014 NCAA Championship team, Samuel saw action in 65 career games with eight starts as a sophomore. He averaged 3.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in his second season in Storrs with career averages of 3.0 ppg and 1.7 rpg.
“We are excited to add someone with Terrence’s background to our program,” Chambers said. “He played two seasons at a very high level and has seen action in a national championship game – that experience is something that cannot be taught. We look forward to working with him over the next year.”
Samuel averaged 4.5 points a game in the 2014 NCAA Tournament run after scoring 1.9 points a contest during the regular season. He tallied two points and a steal in the title game vs. Kentucky.
Last season, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native reached double-figures three times, including in UConn’s First Round NIT game against Arizona State and a career-high 12 points against Tulsa in January, converting a career-best four field goals. He also finished third on the team with 55 assists.
