UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State men's basketball team isn't finished playing in Madison Square Garden this season, returning for the second time in three weeks after posting an 85-80 win at Marquette to advance to the National Invitation Tournament semifinals.
The No. 4 Nittany Lions (24-13) will clash with No. 4 Mississippi State (25-11) in the NIT semifinals at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, in "the world's most famous arena."
Single session public tickets are available at the Madison Square Garden box office, Ticketmaster.com and MSG.com, or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. For Tuesday's game, Nittany Lion fans are encouraged to purchase tickets on the east side of MSG (7th Avenue), in Sections 101-106 and 118-120, to sit near the Penn State bench for the semifinal contest.
Student ticket information for the NIT semifinals has been distributed via email to student ticket holders. Penn State student tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, through the Student Account Manager. Additional student ticket information will be communicated via email and Penn State Athletics and men's basketball social media accounts prior to Thursday's sale.
The Nittany Lions improved to 6-0 in NIT quarterfinal games (five road wins) by winning at Marquette on the heels of knocking off No. 1 seed Notre Dame and Temple earlier in the 81st annual tournament. Penn State is making its first NIT semifinal appearance since winning the 2009 championship.
Lamar Stevens tied his career-high with 30 points, Tony Carr tallied 25 and Shep Garner made five 3-point shots at Marquette, giving him 112 this season to break Joe Crispin's program record (107 in 2010-11) for 3-pointers in a season. Under the direction of head coach Patrick Chambers, Garner has been a part of 73 career wins, the most by any Penn State player in a four-year span since the Nittany Lions joined the Big Ten in 1992-93.
