Maineville, Ohio- The Penn State women’s golf team will travel back to Ohio for the Big Ten Championship beginning this Friday through Sunday, Apr. 20-22.
The tournament will take place at the TPC River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio. The par 72, 7,180-yard course was designed by Arnold Palmer and has played host to a number of major tournaments like the Nationwide Tour’s Chiquita Classic, the Champions Tour’s Kroger Classic, and the PGA Junior National Championship.
The 54-hole event will consist of three rounds total with round one beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and rounds two and three teeing off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Teams will tee off from holes one and 10.
The 14-team field features an all-Big Ten lineup. Penn State (No. 67) will be joined by Northwestern (No. 10), Michigan State (No. 11), Illinois (No.22), Purdue (No. 31), Wisconsin (No. 37), Ohio State (No. 46), Indiana (No. 62), Maryland (No. 70), Nebraska (No. 91), Minnesota (No. 99), Iowa (No. 100) and Rutgers (No. 117).
The Nittany Lions have faced all but Northwestern, Nebraska, and Iowa this season. This will be their fourth appearance against Maryland and their third time facing Illinois with their most recent meetings being at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Ohio last weekend.
“We are excited to play for the Big Ten Championship this weekend,” said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, “ We are currently ranked seventh amongst the Big Ten teams and look to improve upon that significantly after this weekend.”
The six-girl lineup for Penn State includes juniors Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.), Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomores Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.).
The team is coming off a ninth-place finish last weekend at the Lady Buckeye Invitational where they beat out Big Ten rivals Minnesota and Maryland. Basso came out on top for the Nittany Lions placing tied for 13th with a two-round score of 148 (plus-4).
Round one of the Big Ten Championship will begin Friday, Apr. 20 at 10:00 a.m. with Penn State teeing off from hole one. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
