Donor creates memorial scholarship in honor of son

Mike Dopilka of Center Township has established the Dale Dopilka Alumni Memorial Scholarship at Penn State Beaver in honor of his son who died last year at the age of thirty-five after a lifelong struggle with Spina Bifida. Dale Dopilka attended both Penn State Beaver and the University Park campus and the International Academy of Design and Technology in Pittsburgh. "Dale faced many physical and medical challenges and obstacles, but courage and determination allowed him to make contributions to his community and society to the best of his ability," Mike Dopilka said when establishing the award. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student(s) who demonstrates a commitment to providing assistance to others through community service, who uses creative methods to provide betterment for those around him/her, and who has overcome a personal obstacle(s).
