Still time to sign up for Beaver summer camps

MONACA, Pa. — There’s still time to sign your child up for summer camp!Each year, Penn State Beaver offers thousands of area children the opportunity to hone their scholastic, physical and creative skills. This year, more than 20 academics, arts and sports camps — all taught by Penn State-approved educators — will be available for children ages 5 to 17.The first camps begin June 20.Among the offerings this year is The Intergalactic Academy, a new, weeklong adventure inspired by Star Wars that transports students to a galaxy long ago and far away. At the academy, campers will learn the history of the light saber, go through Jedi training, play Jedi games and compare the fictional galaxies in Star Wars to the actual galaxies in the universe.

As always, Penn State Beaver will offer the wildly popular Wizardry School, based on J.K. Rowlings’ best-selling children’s novels, and a host of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) camps, including Science Fashionista, where budding fashion designers learn to make and dye their own handbags, scarves and rugs.Beaver also offers the Odyssey of the Mind, an international educational program that challenges students to apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.Other camps include: You be the Chemist, Kids Learn to Cook, Crime Scene Investigation, robotics, musical theatre, multimedia and web design, softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, fitness, cheerleading, Wii, volleyball and golf.To register for this year’s youth programming, contact the Office of Continuing Education at 724-773-3770 or click here.
