11:00 PM / August 31, 2023

ERIE, Pa. — The Webb telescope launched from French Guiana on Dec. 25, 2021. Its first set of full-color images of space were shared by NASA on July 12, 2022.

The images from Webb have captivated the public, leading to groundbreaking discoveries. The telescope continues to change what we know about the solar system and the Milky Way.

In the first Open House Night in Astronomy of the new academic year, Darren Williams, professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Penn State Behrend, will discuss the Webb telescope and its major discoveries and will explain how astronomers make the images, which are shared across the world.

Open House Nights in Astronomy are outreach programs of the School of Science at Penn State Behrend. These scientific presentations are intended for ages 8 and up; for additional information, contact the school at 814-898-6105.
