The authors Bess Winter and Woody Skinner will read from their work on Oct. 19 when the Smith Creative Writers Reading Series continues at Penn State Behrend. The readings, which begin at 6 p.m. in Metzgar Center, are free and open to the public.

A reception with the authors will precede the readings, at 5:30 p.m.

Winter’s debut story collection, “Machines of Another Era,” was released by Gold Wake Press in 2021. Her stories have appeared in Kenyon Review, American Short Fiction, Gettysburg Review and W. W. Norton’s Flash Fiction International, among other publications. She has been awarded the Pushcart Prize and the American Short[er] Fiction Prize.

Skinner’s fiction has appeared in Carolina Quarterly, Catamaran, River Styx, Hobart and Booth. PEN America selected his debut story collection, “A Thousand Distant Radios,” as a semifinalist for the 2018 Robert W. Bingham Prize.

The Smith Creative Writers Reading Series is produced by Penn State Behrend’s creative writing program, which leads to a bachelor’s of fine arts degree. The program is the only one of its kind at Penn State.
