More than 230 students will present their capstone projects during the Fasenmyer Engineering Design Conference at Penn State Behrend on April 27. The projects include a mobile app for navigation at Presque Isle State Park, a switch-adapted power source for wheelchairs and a robot that can tend goal during soccer practices.

Details are at the conference webpage.

All students in the School of Engineering at Behrend must complete a yearlong capstone applied-design project. That work is showcased at the Fasenmyer conference, which is named for the late Richard J. Fasenmyer, a 1969 graduate of the college and a longtime supporter of the School of Engineering. He founded RJF International Corp., a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of interior wall coverings, industrial matting products and specialty films.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Greg Simon, the vice president of engineering at Google. Simon, a 1995 graduate who also holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Penn State’s University Park campus, designed BMW’s iPod interface. He later became the software technical lead for webOS at Palm, pioneering the use of wireless charging. Today, his work focuses on the core operating systems at Google, including Chrome.
