Music at Noon: The Logan Series at Penn State Behrend
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM / September 24, 2025
Music at Noon: The Logan Series at Penn State Behrend begins Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a performance by Breath & Hammer, featuring Grammy Award-nominated David Krakauer and the South African pianist and composer Kathleen Tagg. The concert, in Penn State Behrend’s McGarvey Commons, is free and open to the public.
Krakauer is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading clarinetists and a pioneering force in modern klezmer music. Tagg, an award-winning pianist and producer, blends acoustic and electronic sounds with innovative sound design. The pair have performed together since 2012, exploring improvisation and circular breathing across a range of orchestral and chamber music, wind-band compositions and multimedia installations.
Highlights of their work include “Keepers of the Flame,” a collaborative work with Syrian, Ukrainian and Polish musicians, and “Klezmer Fantasy,” which was performed with the Royal Netherlands Navy Band.
The pair also co-wrote, performed and produced the score for the feature film “Minyan,” which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival.
Music at Noon: The Logan Series was founded by Kay Logan in 1989 and is supported by a $1 million endowment by the Kay Hardesty Logan Foundation. The series was designed to strip away the mystique that often is attached to professional chamber music. The lunchtime concerts, which are presented in McGarvey Commons, in the college’s Reed Union Building, are informal, and a portion of the seating is reserved for students from Erie’s Diehl Elementary School.
