Smith Creative Writers Reading Series

The Smith Creative Writers Reading Series at Penn State Behrend continues Thursday, April 10, with a reading by Avitus B. Carle, whose first book, “These Warm Bodies,” won the Moon City Press Fiction Award.

The reading, which begins at 6 p.m. in the lobby of Metzgar Center, is free and open to the public. A reception with the author will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Carle has published flash fiction and nonfiction in Jellyfish Review, The Offing, The Rumpus, Lost Balloon, and Hippocampus Magazine, among other publications. Her story “Soba” was included in the 2020 Best of the Net Anthology. Her story “A Lethal Woman” was included in the 2022 Best Small Fictions Anthology.

Carle holds a master of fine arts degree in fiction from Spalding University. She also holds degrees from Old Dominion University and West Chester University. She lives and writes outside of Philadelphia.

The Smith Creative Writers Reading Series is produced by Penn State Behrend’s creative writing program, which leads to a bachelor’s of fine arts degree. The program is the only one of its kind at Penn State.
