The author Glenn Taylor will read from his novels, including his new book, “The Songs of Betty Baach,” when the Smith Creative Writers Reading Series continues at Penn State Behrend on April 20. His reading, which begins at 6 p.m. in the lobby of Metzgar Center, is free and open to the public.

Taylor’s writing has appeared in the Oxford American, the Guardian, Gulf Coast and Huizache. His first novel, “The Ballad of Trenchmouth Taggart,” was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award. He teaches in the Master of Fine Arts program at West Virginia University.

The Smith Creative Writers Reading Series is produced by Penn State Behrend’s creative writing program, which leads to a bachelor of fine arts degree. The program is the only one of its kind at Penn State.
