Smith Creative Writers Reading Series

The poet Al Maginnes will read from his work on March 21 when the Smith Creative Writers Reading Series continues at Penn State Behrend. The reading, which will begin at 6 p.m. in Metzgar Center, is free and open to the public.

Maginnes is the author of “Taking Up our Daily Tools,” “The Light in our Houses” and “Ghost Alphabet,” which won the White Pine Poetry Prize. Before becoming a writer, he worked as a landscaper, an electrician, a surveyor and a hammock weaver.

He lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and teaches at Wake Technical Community College.

The Smith Creative Writers Reading Series is produced by Penn State Behrend’s creative writing program, which leads to a bachelor’s of fine arts degree. The program is the only one of its kind at Penn State.
