Speaker Series at Penn State Behrend: Timothy Beal
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM / March 05, 2026
The Speaker Series at Penn State Behrend will continue March 5 with a talk by Timothy Beal, a scholar and writer who explores technology, religion, ecology, and AI in the humanities. The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of Metzgar Center, is free and open to the public.
Beal’s talk, “What’s So Generative About Generative AI? How and Why the Humanities Have a Future,” will explore the rapid adoption of — and the occasional resistance to — generative artificial intelligence in the humanities.
Beal is the Distinguished University Professor and the Florence Harkness Professor of Religion at Case Western Reserve University. He has published 17 books, including “When Time is Short: Finding Our Way in the Anthropocene” and “The Book of Revelation: A Biography,” which won a Public Scholar Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
He also serves as director of the h.lab at Case Western, where humanities scholars and students experiment with and reflect on new and emerging computational tools.
The Speaker Series at Penn State Behrend is made possible by the college’s Student Activity Fee, the Division of Student Affairs and the Harriet Behrend Ninow Memorial Lecture Series Fund. To learn more, visit the Speaker Series webpage.
