“Sweet Sorrow” reading at Penn State Behrend

6:00 PM / April 13, 2022 - 7:30 PM / April 14, 2022

Two students in the creative writing program at Penn State Behrend will read from their prose and poetry during the first of two “Sweet Sorrow” readings at Penn State Behrend on April 14. The program, which is open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Metzgar Center lobby.

Aria Meixel will read from her senior thesis, a collection of short fiction and poetry. Her work borrows from several genres, including realism, horror and mystery. Meixel, a Schreyer Honors College student, is the poetry editor of Lake Effect, the college’s international literary journal.

Chloe Hilson will read from her thesis, a story cycle that is rooted in the natural world. She is a member of Lake Effect’s fiction editorial staff and an intern at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center.

Two other students will read on April 21.

The “Sweet Sorrow” readings are part of the Smith Creative Writers Reading Series at Behrend. The series is produced by Behrend’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) program in creative writing — the only program of its kind at Penn State — with support from the Clarence A. and Eugenie Baumann Smith Fund.
