Worldwide Teach-In on Climate and Justice

5:30 PM - 8:30 PM / March 29, 2023

Penn State Behrend will again participate in the Worldwide Teach-In on Climate and Justice, a global effort to broaden discussion of climate-related issues.

Twenty-five faculty members and community experts will participate in panel discussions beginning at 5:30 p.m. on March 29 in the Reed Union Building. The talks will focus on food systems, trash management, climate resiliency and the plastics paradox, among other topics.

The program is free and open to the public. Food will be provided.

The Worldwide Teach-In originated at Bard College and this year will extend to 50 countries. Penn State Behrend first joined the network in 2022.

“We want to give people a sense of purpose,” said Sherri “Sam” Mason, director of sustainability at the Behrend campus. “We also want them to know they aren’t alone.”

Beginning at 6 p.m., participants can attend one of three 50-minute discussions. A second series of talks will begin at 7 p.m.

A closing session will offer participants a way forward, Mason said.

“The hardest part of anything is starting,” she said. “It’s OK to just take a baby step. If a million other people all take a baby step, we’ll be a lot closer to a solution.”
