ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend baseball team swept a doubleheader against Waynesburg University on March 17. The team, which has built a 7-3 record, will travel to Franciscan on Wednesday.
Behrend’s softball, volleyball and tennis teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:
Baseball
Penn State Behrend 12, Waynesburg 4

David Gibson, a freshman from North East, hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning of the nightcap. Pitcher Ethan Tinker, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, struck out four batters and gave up just one hit in three innings of work.
Softball

Mt. Union 10, Penn State Behrend 1
Mt. Union 3, Penn State Behrend 2
Maria Jones, a senior from Wilcox, batted four-for-four in the second game against Hiram, including a long ball that was her 100th career hit.
Men’s volleyball

Nazareth 3, Penn State Behrend 0
Kyle Hoffman, a sophomore from Carlton, had 11 kills, three digs and three block assists against Geneva. Alex Jackson, a senior from Cochranton, had 30 assists.
Men’s tennis
Houghton 7, Penn State Behrend 2
Luke Vunora, a freshman from Natrona Heights, won a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. He partnered with William Thomas, a freshman from Greensburg, to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Women’s tennis
Penn State Behrend 7, Houghton 2
Grove City 8, Penn State Behrend 1
Erica Jasinski, a senior from Fairview, won at No. 1 singles against Houghton, 6-1, 6-0. Tamanna Sharma, a sophomore from Brampton, Canada, won at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Rachel Fleming, a sophomore from St. Marys, won a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles against Grove City, 6-4, 0-6, 10-8.
