Penn State Behrend’s track and field teams opened the outdoor season at Carnegie Mellon on March 26. Three members of the men’s team qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships.
Behrend’s volleyball, tennis, water polo and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:
Men’s track and field
Braeden Smith, a senior from Erie, won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.91 meters. Samuel Hetrick, a sophomore from New Bethlehem, cleared the same height and placed second. Dan Dabrowski, a sophomore from Harborcreek, placed second in the discus, completing a throw of 46.91 meters.
Women’s track and field
Olivia Nola, a freshman from Erie, placed second in the 3,000-meter race, finishing in 11:09.98. Madison Kappeler, a sophomore from Cecil, placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 2.90 meters.

JP Goodsel, a graduate student from Corry, had 16 kills and 10 digs against Thiel. Diego Ortiz, a junior from San Juan, Puerto Rico, had 21 assists against St. Vincent.

Max Lu, a junior from Plum, and Ethan Hillhouse, a freshman from Erie, won their singles matches against Mt. Aloysius with perfect 6-0, 6-0 scores. Lu plays at No. 5, and Hillhouse at No. 6.
Women’s tennis
Houghton 6, Penn State Behrend 3
Erica Jasinski, a junior from Fairview, and Rachel Weber, a junior from Allison Park, won at No. 1 doubles, with a score of 8-2. Jasinski also won at No. 1 singles, with scores of 6-2, 6-1.
Women’s water polo
Washington & Jefferson 11, Penn State Behrend 10
Penn State Behrend 9, Grove City 4
Marley Persch, a freshman from Hudsonville, Michigan, and Shannon Young, a junior from Roseville, California, each scored three goals against Washington & Jefferson. Emily McNaughton, a junior from Wexford, scored three goals against Grove City.

The Lions exited the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship tournament with the losses to Pitt-Bradford. Abigail Lanker, a freshman from Sunbury, Ohio, led the team with a 183.
